Hey guys it’s Blondie and guess what… I INTERVIEWED AN AUTHOR! Her name is Jessica Parker. She published a book in a short story collection called Secrets and Doors and all proceeds of the book go to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Amazon link is down below. She is one of the nicest authors I have ever interviewed and her response time shattered records. So here’s the interview.
1. How did you get your start in writing?
A friend of mine posted online about a class she was teaching about being an author. I always enjoyed writing when I was younger, but I never thought I’d be good enough to write a book. Through the class I rediscovered a passion for writing words.
2. How much research do you put into your books?
It really depends on the story. I write mostly fantasy with magic, however there are rules in magical lands too. I learned how to scuba dive so that I could develop a group of people that live underwater. Research has helped me to make the magical things more believable. I do dedicate specific parts of my writing time aside to do research, otherwise I get distracted and waste a lot of time on cat videos.
3. Do you write full-time or part-time?
Part-time for now, I work full time as a commercial underwriter. I hope one day to be able to quit the day job so that I can write full-time. For now I strive to spend at least 12 hours a week on writing related things.
4. What is the hardest thing about writing a book?
Edits. The revision process takes a lot of time for me, but the results are worth it.
5. Can you tell us about what you’re currently working on?
I’m in the process of editing a young adult fantasy novel. Part romance, part elemental magic, part rebellion. I’ll be making an announcement very soon.
6. And finally. What advice do you have for future writers?
Don’t give up. The journey for writing is very personal and takes as many twists and turns as the story. Keep writing and learning about the craft.
Okay guys. That was my interview with Jessica. Here are her links.
Bye! Love you guys! ~Blondie
