Hi guys it’s Blondie (obviously) and I really need to pick a new intro.
Okay but the real reason I’m here is I am reviewing The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han!
So, my best friend has been trying to get me to read this book 9and the rest of the summer trilogy) for almost a year now and I’ve had it on my shelf since Christmas I just never read it and now that I have I’m ready to tell all of you all about it.
Here’s the summary:w
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer — they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
Okay the obvious reason why I picked this book up is because my brain is having a severe fantasy over load (due to reading almost 4 Harry Potter books straight through.) and severe contemporary withdrawls. Which resulted in me reading this book in 17 hours.
But here’s the catch. This book was okay, but it could hae been better. I personally don’t think that Belly (the main character) had a major character development. And I thought her character was really whiny. And now I know what people thought of Eadlyn from the Selection expansion series (The Heir and The Crown.) But the one thing that really “rubbed me the wrong way” is that even though I related to Belly (both of us extremley used to be the only girl around and being excluded) I couldn’t connect with her.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars even though there are minor problems it was still over all a fast pased quick summery contemporary read.
Would you read more by this author?
Definetley I’m always (mostly) open to giving an author a second chance especially if I gave them 4 stars or above. Plus there are still 5 books by this author that I just have to get my hands on.
Would you encourage others to read this book?
It wouldn’t be the first book I would recommend to someone, but if you’re a big contemporary summer romance person I would recommend this to you in a heart beat.
Okay guys I think that’s all for me. Have you read TSITP? Do you agree with me? And who’s your favorite protagonist in a contemporary novel? Tell me in the comments! Love you guys! Bye! ~Blondie
