I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero. But when your whole life get’s swept up by a tornado, taking you with it, you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. But I’ve never expected Oz to look like this. A place where Good Witches can’t be trusted and Wicked Witches just might be the good guys. A place where even the yellow brick road is crumbling.
My name is Amy Gumm, and I’m the other girl from Kansas. I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked, and I’ve been given a mission. Remove the tin woodman’s heart. Steal the scarecrow’s brain. Take the lion’s courage. And then…Dorothy. Must. Die.
Sorry, I know, I know, I’m a horrible person, I didn’t post yesterday. Sorry… But! I’m posting a book review today so that makes up for it…right?
So, the book I’m reviewing is Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. This story is narrated by Amy Gumm…the other girl from Kansas, bred in a trailer park, and notoriously know as “Salvation Amy” and “trailer trash” And get this, she’s called these names by a pregnant high-schooler. Talk about irony.
Okay I got off track, Amy Gumm, along with her trailer, and loyal pet rat named Star is swept up by a tornado, to a magical land called Oz. Sound familiar. Except this time Oz is much worse then when the Wicked Witches, Oz is literally being drained of all of it’s magic, and guess why…Dorothy. She came back and is a power-hungry, uh-hem princess. Also, I’ve taken to calling her new style “Hooker Dorothy” You know like the “adult costumes” at the Halloween store that say like Mature Dorothy and the only resemblance is the blue checkered print…barely. Well yeah, that’s Dorothy officially.
I give this book a 4 out of stars, I totally loved this book, and will definitely be picking up the second book, and the third and final book when it comes out in March. The reason this book did not achieve 5 stars is beause the plot twist that wasn’t even really a plot twist, I totally saw coming, also the climax of the book was kind of blurry and not even that climatic, BUT it was still an amazing book that I totally recommend.
